Receiving Tables

There are two main things to keep in mind when receiving pool tables.

First, inspect the table for freight damage. If you find the table has been damaged, call Best Billiards (800-225-2037) while the truck is still at your location. We will help determine the level of damage and provide a course of action. If you are not able to reach someone at Best Billiards, have the table returned to the local dock and have them hold it there until further notice. Do not sign for the table if it is being sent back to the dock. Also if you have a digital camera, take a few pictures of the parts in question, this will help us evaluate the situation. Best Billiards will handle all damage claims and have new parts or a new table re-sent if neccessary.

Please note that small chips around the edge of slate is not considered damage. Slate is brittle in nature and will often chip around the edge. Chips are not a concern because they are concealed under the rail and far from the playing surface. Call Best Billiards if you are not sure.

Second, cut the bands with a pair of wire cutters or pliers around the slate, so that each piece can be unloaded individually. Each piece is roughly 150 lbs and can be handled easel by two people. This will also allow you to further examine the slate for any damage.

Tools Needed

  • Pair of wire cutters -- For breaking the metal bands around the slate.
  • Considerations

  • The driver is not responsible for unloading your table, but he will usually help as shown in the pictures.
  • Because he is not unloading the table, it should be at the very back of the truck as shown in the pictures.
  • Some carriers will think you need a lift gate to unload this type of shipment. This is not the case. Its actually easier to unload the slate from a higher position. Best Billiards will not cover lift gate charges.
  • The driver will usually have a hand-truck on hand. If you need to go a long distance, a hand-truck will make the job much easier.
